2018 BMAA National Meeting

69th Annual Meeting of the BMA of America

By Paul White, BMAA President

Hello Fellow Christians!

I encourage your church to begin making plans to attend our national meeting April 16-18 in Jackson, Miss.

One of the things that makes our association unique is the fact that each of our churches, no matter their size, is represented by the same number of messengers. So before you say your vote doesn’t matter, I beg to differ. Your vote is as important as anyone’s.

Your attendance will not only encourage our departmental leaders and serve as a visible witness to those in the areas where we meet, but when someone comes back and reports on the meeting, it can serve as a needed bridge between our associational work and your local church. Having representation at a local, state and national meeting should be the norm.

Each year, the recommendations to be considered at the meeting are mailed out so each congregation can bring their votes concerning them to the meeting. If it is not possible for your leadership to attend, consider empowering others to stand up for your church family.

BMAA Meeting: Stand in the Gap

The 69th annual session of the Baptist Missionary Association of America will convene April 16-18 at the Jackson Convention Complex, 105 East Pascagoula Street, Jackson, Miss. The sessions will also be live streamed.

The theme this year is “Stand in the Gap,” with special emphasis on intercessory prayer. “If you are unable to attend, please set aside a time during one of your regular services to offer up a prayer of intercession for the meeting and those involved,” said BMAA President Paul White.

The recommendations from each national department will be printed in the Trumpet as soon as the information becomes available, probably the first part of March.

Special Events

Some of the special events planned for this year’s meeting are:

  • Monday night — Dr. John Adams director of Moral Action will be bringing a “very flag-raising” patriotic God and Country Rally entitled “America 1969-2018.”
  • A Ladies’ Retreat will be held Tuesday morning, beginning at 9 a.m., with Kim Crabill as the featured speaker. The theme is “Outrageously Courageous, Dare to Live Beyond Your Fears.” The event is open to all ladies.
  • Tuesday — The following breakout sessions will be offered: Sharing Christ with Muslims (Charlie Costa, Room 207), Multi-Generational Ministry (Adam Thomas, Room 208), Opportunities… Hispanic (Elvis Garcia, Room 209) and How to Counsel (Sam Bradley, Room 210).
  • BMA Seminary Dinner will be held Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. in the Gallery Room.
  • The “National BMA Choir,” which will include “every singer in the building,” will be singing Wednesday afternoon. “It would be a great opportunity to expose more of your people to the association,” said President White. “Come and help us blow the roof off!”
  • Wednesday Evening — As always, the meeting will conclude with the BMA of America Missions Report and the Missionary Commission

Lifetime Achievement

Again this year, men who have been in ministry for over 60 years (and have not already received one) will be presented with a Lifetime Certificate Award.

“If you are one of those to be honored, be sure and check at the registration desk to confirm your name is on the list; and if it is not, write it down,” said Bro. White. “Your help will be appreciated.”

From Recording Clerk James Ray Raines

Our roster shows that we have 1,260 churches that are affiliated with the BMAA. However, the representations in our annual meetings reflect the participation of only about half of them. We recognize that the association is the servant of the churches, each church is autonomous and participation is voluntary.

However, there are many benefits offered to the member churches, including legal certification that the church is a registered member of a non-profit association, (the BMAA is a registered non-profit organization with the IRS) and certification to assist if the church chooses to incorporate for legal or tax purposes.

Even when attendance is not possible, the letter of registration affirms the church’s membership. The registration letters should be sent to me at P.O. Box 17872, North Little Rock, AR 72117.

When you send in your church letter, please include an offering for meeting and minute expenses. All expenses for facilities, equipment and supplies for the annual meeting, plus travel expenses for several committees and the printing of the yearbooks are paid from this fund. The total cost is $35,000-$40,000 each year. It is imperative that we increase contributions to this fund.

Thanks to your response last year, we made it. However, our balance is dangerously low, and we still need extra help.
