BMA Legacy Missionary Dies

Leta Ruth Bowman, 90 of Conway, passed away Oct. 1. She entered Heaven on what would have been her 70th wedding anniversary to her husband, former missionary and Baptist Trumpet editor Bobby Eugene Bowman.

Ruth faithfully served the Lord alongside her husband for 20 years in Honduras as a BMA missionary. She was affectionately known as “Doña Ruth” to many locals. During their ministry, she cooked for countless mission teams, assisted at the hospital, drove the ambulance and cared for many children at the orphanage in Sula, Honduras. She also served in leadership roles in the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary (WMA) and Girls’ Missionary Auxiliary (GMA). Known for her servant’s heart, Ruth loved to cook and was always ready to open her home, share her faith, and prepare meals for family and friends.

Survivors include: children, Blenda (Dwight) Smith of Potts Camp, Miss.; Gary Bowman of Greenbrier; Lisa (David) Martin of Conway; and Tommy (Casey) Bowman of Greenbrier; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Clark; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A joint celebration of life for Bobby and Ruth will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 1 at Antioch Baptist Church in Conway. Memorial donations may be made to three ministries dear to their hearts: Central Baptist College — Bobby & Ruth Bowman Missions Endowment Scholarship (cbc.edu/memorial), Baptist Medical Missions International (P.O. Box 878, Conway, Ark. 72033) and Lifeword (lifeword.org/donate/donate).
