CBC SPORTS: Six Players Finish In Double Figures

Women’s Basketball

         • Walnut Ridge, Jan. 14 — Making up a contest originally scheduled for Jan. 9, CBC was at the Southerland-Mabee Center for an American Midwest Conference (AMC) rivalry game against the Eagles of Williams Baptist University (WBU). CBC (7-6, 5-4 AMC) was close after one quarter but was outscored 33-8 in the second quarter, ultimately falling to WBU (12-3, 8-1 AMC) 98-59. Rhys Anderson led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 15 off the bench, while Aliya Grotjohn and Tamara Christmas chipped in with 10 each. Raigan Head led the way in rebounds with 13. The game was ultimately decided by points off turnovers, second-chance points and points in the paint, all of which favored the Eagles.

         • Columbia, Mo., Jan. 16 — Playing on the road for the second time in three days, CBC took on the first-place Columbia Cougars (CC) in an AMC tilt in the Arena of Southwell Complex. CBC (7-7, 5-5 AMC) couldn’t recover from a slow start and lost to CC (15-0, 9-0 AMC) 91-48. Raigan Head led the way for CBC with 15 points and 8 rebounds. CBC did win the turnover battle, committing only 12 and forcing 13, but they couldn’t stop a potent Cougar attack that shot 44% from the field and made 15 three-pointers.

         • Columbia, Mo., Jan. 18 — Playing on the road for the third time this week, CBC took on the Stars of Stephens College (SC) in an AMC clash inside Silverthorne Arena. CBC (7-8, 5-6 AMC) trailed 32-9 at halftime and lost 75-40 to SC (10-7, 7-4 AMC). Aliya Grotjohn led the way with 20 points for CBC, 16 of which came after halftime. Rhys Anderson handed out four assists and became the third player in program history with at least 200 assists, joining Holly Allen and Britney Nealy.

Men’s Basketball

         • Columbia, Mo., Jan. 16 — Playing on the road for the first time since Dec. 14, #17 CBC took on the Cougars of Columbia College (CC) in an AMC contest inside the Arena of Southwell Complex. CBC (14-3, 8-0 AMC) had six players finish in double figures scoring to hold off CC (12-6, 5-2 AMC) 85-81. Jonas Carlisle led the way in scoring, and he was joined in double figures by Wade Williams, Gabe Johnson, Brian Alexander, Sage Borbon and Devin Foster. An extremely even game saw CBC take advantage at the three-point line, doubling Columbia’s total to provide the difference in the contest.

         • Walnut Ridge, Jan. 20 — Playing on the road for the second straight game and making up a game originally scheduled for Jan. 9, #17 CBC was at the Southerland Mabee Center for an AMC clash with rival Williams Baptist (WBU). CBC (15-3, 9-0 AMC) never trailed, leading by as many as 18 points before winning 92-79 over WBU (4-11, 1-8 AMC). Five players finished in double figures scoring, led by Brian Alexander off the bench. The Mustangs were plus-four on the glass and forced 15 turnovers, which they converted into 21 points, while the bench for CBC outscored WBU’s bench 32-10.
