Men’s Basketball
• Fulton, Mo., Jan. 23 — Playing a top 25 matchup for the third time this season and the second time on the road, #17 CBC was inside Anderson Arena for an American Midwest Conference (AMC) clash with the #22 Owls of William Woods University (WWU). CBC (15-4, 9-1 AMC) couldn’t hang on to a 39-32 halftime lead, falling to WWU (16-2, 8-1 AMC) 79-74. Four Mustangs finished in double figures scoring, led by Jonas Carlisle with 19. Wade Williams chipped in with 15 points, while Sage Borbon and Gabe Johnson had 10 apiece. CBC led for over 30 minutes in the contest, but after leading 55-42 with 15:24 to go, the Owls used a 22-8 run over the next 9:19 to take a 64-63 lead, and CBC couldn’t respond, and the Mustangs fell to 0-3 against teams inside the top 25 this season.
• St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 25 — Coming off their first AMC loss on Thursday night, #17 CBC looked to bounce back with an AMC tilt against the Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP) in St. Louis at the UHSP Gym. CBC (16-4, 10-1 AMC) took care of business, leading 59-29 at halftime before cruising to a 106-68 win over UHSP (6-14, 0-11 AMC). All 12 Mustangs that played scored, led by the trio of Gabe Johnson, Jonas Carlisle and Daquarius Harris, who all had 13 each while Wade Williams also finished in double figures with 11. The Mustangs dominated in every facet of the game, outrebounding the Eutectics 54-25, outscoring them 32-6 on second-chance points, and 58-36 in the paint. CBC scored the first seven points of the game inside a minute and a half and never looked back, racing out to the 30-point halftime lead and never letting UHSP get closer than 27 in the second half.
Women’s Basketball
• Fulton, Mo., Jan. 23 — Looking to snap a three-game losing skid, CBC played the fourth of five consecutive AMC road games at Anderson Arena against the WWU Owls. CBC (8-8, 6-6 AMC) trailed after the first three quarters but found a way to win in double overtime, downing WWU (7-9, 5-5 AMC) 76-69. Three players scored in double figures for CBC, led by Raigan Head and Riley Whittington, who played all 50 minutes. The game was evenly matched and featured seven ties and three lead changes, with neither team leading by more than 10.
• St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 25 — Putting an end to their five-game road trip, CBC took on the UHSP Eutectics inside the UHSP gymnasium. CBC (8-9, 6-7 AMC) led at halftime but was outscored 50-33 in the second half by UHSP (4-15, 4-9 AMC) to fall 82-69. Aliya Grotjohn led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 21 points, hitting five of nine three-point attempts. She was joined in double figures by Tamara Christmas with 13 points, while both Addison Hudspeth and Raigan Head contributed 12 points each. Additionally, Head recorded her sixth double-double of the season, grabbing 10 rebounds.
Indoor Track
• Pittsburg, Kan., Jan. 25 — Competing for the first time this season, CBC was at the NAIA Juco Challenge at Pittsburg State University. Four athletes competed in three events for CBC. Bay Davis was the lone competitor on the women’s side, as she ran a 3:10.71 in the women’s 800-meter race. Josh Brown and Kortney Embry competed in the men’s 60-meter hurdles, with Brown setting a new PR of 8.92 and Embry finishing in a time of 10.64. Solomon Barnes made his collegiate debut in the triple jump and finished in sixth place with a distance of 13.73 meters, which also put him second amongst NAIA competitors.
