When my wife and I were starting our relationship, we went on dates. We dressed up, we were on our best behavior, we looked nice, we talked kindly to one another, I opened the doors, we stared into each other’s eyes and “love was in the air,” so to speak. Sadly, something happens in a marriage, where after a while, we can get so comfortable with one another that we don’t always dress up, speak kindly, open doors or even look at each other. Then we wonder why (in the words of the wonderful old group from the 60’s, the Righteous Brothers) “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’.” If you’re married, you know what I’m saying, and the truth is that it doesn’t have to be that way! We don’t have to lose anything. I think it’s God’s desire for us to grow in our love toward one another and to continue to see the flame that once burned bright for our spouse get even brighter by His grace and some intentionality on our part. A great marriage doesn’t just happen out of nowhere and with no effort. Like anything of value, it comes at a cost, and there’s nothing more worthy of your investment than that of your marriage.
There is a wonderful day coming in the near future — Valentine’s Day on Friday, Feb. 14 — that will provide you with an opportunity to invest in your relationship or marriage, and I suggest you do so. Often, as believers, we don’t have a lot of great godly options for entertainment, but this Valentine’s Day, you do. South City Church is hosting a wonderful solution for you! It’s a Date Night at 317 Coffee & Cafe (317 S. Shackleford, Little Rock, Ark. 72211). For $20 per person, you can enjoy wonderful coffee, premium desserts and a world-class concert with singer-songwriter and former vocalist of NewSong, Michael O’Brien.
Take your special someone to dinner, and then after dinner, join us at 317 for this wonderful night. Our doors will open at 7 p.m., dessert will be served at 7:30 p.m. and the concert will begin by 8 p.m.
Michael has recorded projects focused on godly relationships and marriage, with Chick-fil-A, as well as many gospel and worship projects from which he’ll be performing songs. Michael has graced the charts with three number-one singles — “If Ever I Forget,” “Nothin’s Gonna Turn Me Around” and “What Held You on the Cross.” His time with the group Newsong was no less remarkable, featuring hits like the duet “When God Made You” with Natalie Grant, “Before The Day” and “Psalm 40” from their worship project “Rescue.”
Join us for a night where love and faith intertwine and Michael’s powerful vocals and unique style will inspire and uplift. Whether it’s your first date or a celebration of many years together, let Michael O’Brien’s music be the backdrop to your Valentine’s Day.
