CBC SPORTS: Kohnke Becomes Winningest Coach in CBC Program History

Men’s Basketball

         • Little Rock, Jan. 28 — Playing outside the American Midwest Conference (AMC) for the last time this season, #17 CBC faced off against the Philander Smith University (PSU) Panthers in Crawford J. Mims Gymnasium. CBC (17-4) held the lead at halftime and tightened their defense in the second half, outscoring PSU (17-6) 43-30 for a final score of 89-69. Sage Borbon led four Mustangs in scoring with double figures, joined by Wade Williams, Gabe Johnson and Jonas Carlisle. The Mustangs made 11 three-pointers and went 16-17 from the free-throw line while outrebounding the Panthers 33-31 and forcing 13 turnovers, committing just six in return.

         • Conway, Feb. 1 — Playing inside A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse for the first time since Jan. 11, #20 CBC hosted the Spartans of Missouri Baptist (MBU) on homecoming. CBC (18-4, 11-1 AMC) overcame an 11-point halftime deficit and scored 52 points in the second half to defeat MBU (9-13, 6-6 AMC) 82-74. Wade Williams led the scoring for CBC with 18 points, all of which were scored in the second half. Jonas Carlisle contributed 14 points and secured another double-double with 11 rebounds, while Sage Borbon added 13 points, and Gabe Johnson chipped in with 10. CBC excelled from beyond the arc, hitting 12 three-pointers and forcing 18 Spartan turnovers.

Women’s Basketball

         • Conway, Jan. 30 — Playing at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse for the first time since Jan. 11, CBC hosted the Comets of Cottey College (CC) in an AMC match. CBC (8-10, 6-8 AMC) played shorthanded due to the flu, trailing by 10 at halftime before falling to CC (14-6, 10-4 AMC) by a score of 80-58. Raigan Head led the way for CBC with 26 points, including a record-tying 12-for-12 at the free throw line. This 12 marks a record that has been achieved three times previously, most recently by Aminata Seck against Harris-Stowe State in January 2022. Molly Smith was the only other Lady Mustang in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

         • Conway, Feb. 1 — Looking for a season sweep, CBC hosted the MBU Spartans in front of a packed crowd for Homecoming at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (9-10, 7-8 AMC) secured a buzzer-beating three-pointer and a steal with just one second left in overtime to edge out MBU (5-16, 5-10 AMC) 81-80, marking their second win against them this season. Five Mustangs scored in double figures, led by Aliya Grotjohn, Raigan Head and Rhys Anderson, who each contributed 17 points. The day’s hero, Riley Whittington, added 13 points, while Addison Hudspeth chipped in 10. The game featured 12 ties and 14 lead changes, with neither team holding a lead greater than 9 points.

Baseball

         • Shreveport, La., Jan. 31 — Throwing the first pitch of the 2025 season, CBC took on the #4 Pilots of LSU-Shreveport (LSU-S) at Pilots Field. CBC (0-1) went ahead early but couldn’t hold the LSU-S (1-0) offense, dropping the season opener 8-5.

         • Shreveport, La., Feb. 1 — Looking to bounce back from a season-opening loss, CBC was back at Pilot Field for the final two games of their season-opening weekend against #17 Indiana-Southeast (IUSE) and #4 LSU-S. CBC (0-3) dropped both games, falling 10-0 to IUSE (0-1) and 14-4 to LSU-S (6-0).

Softball

         • LeCompte, La., Jan. 31 — Opening the season at the Louisiana Christian University Play Day, CBC took on the #21 Generals of LSU-Alexandria and the Jaguars of the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV). CBC (1-1) split on the day, losing to LSU-Alexandria (2-0) 5-3 before taking the game from UHV (0-2) 18-8 in six innings.

         • LeCompte, La., Feb. 1 — Following a split on day one of the Louisiana Christian University Play Day, CBC looked for two wins on the tournament’s second day against Texas A&M-San Antonio (TAMUSA) and Webber International (WUI). CBC (2-2) earned a split, run-ruling TAMUSA 10-2 in six innings before falling to WIU (1-4) 8-6 in the final game.

         • St. Louis, Mo., Feb. 3 — CBC softball has earned the AMC Player of the Week award for the first time this season as Kinley Johnson was named the first Player of the Week. Johnson had a huge weekend in four games for the Mustangs. She went 7-12 with three home runs, six RBIs and four walks for a .583 batting average and a slugging percentage of 1.333. In the first game of the season against #21 LSU-Alexandria, she blasted a pair of home runs and drove in all three runs.

Wrestling

         • Marshall, Mo., Feb. 1 — Returning to the mat for the first time in a couple of weeks, CBC competed at the Missouri Valley Open. Jordan Allen-Smith went 0-2 at 197 pounds, losing by technical fall and fall, and Juan Luis-Tapia went 0-2 at 285 pounds, losing by tech fall and fall.
