CBC SPORTS: Mustangs Win At Homecoming

Men’s Basketball

         • Springfield, Mo., Feb. 6 — Following a strange happening in pregame warmups, #20 CBC took on the Patriots of Mission University (MU) in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) clash at the AG Financial Center on the campus of Evangel University. #20 CBC (19-4, 12-1 AMC) overcame the venue change following a broken rim at the original location to win 89-79 over MU (6-13, 4-8 AMC). Sage Borbon led five Mustangs in double figures scoring. CBC was hot all night, shooting 51% from the field and winning despite getting outrebounded by five.

         • Conway, Feb. 8 — #20 CBC hosted the Hornets from Harris-Stowe State University (HSSU) in an AMC matchup on Youth Group Day at the A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (20-4, 13-1 AMC) never trailed, building a lead as large as 29 points before securing a 78-55 victory over HSSU (6-16, 3-11 AMC). Brian Alexander led the team with 20 points off the bench, while Sage Borbon and Savaughn Smith each contributed 11 points, and Jonas Carlisle added 10. The Mustangs out-rebounded the Hornets 49-43 and held them to 32% shooting from the field and 2-for-20 from beyond the arc.

Women’s Basketball

         • Springfield, Mo., Feb. 6 — Playing on the road for the first time since Jan. 25, CBC took on the Patriots of MU at W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse. CBC (9-11, 7-9 AMC) never led, falling to MU (16-4, 13-3 AMC) by a score of 85-62. Raigan Head was the top scorer for CBC with 20 points, while Tamara Christmas added 11 points, including a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line. CBC excelled at the free throw line, making 17 compared to just 7 for the Patriots, and also outscored them in points in the paint, 20-18.

         • Conway, Feb. 8 — CBC hosted the HSSU Hornets on Senior Day in AMC play at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (9-12, 7-10 AMC) led after one quarter, but couldn’t stop a potent HSSU (6-16, 5-12 AMC) offense in the second quarter, trailing 39-31 at halftime before falling 72-61. Lydia York, Rhys Anderson, Tamara Christmas and Maele Van Houtert were honored for their contributions to the women’s basketball program after the game. Raigan Head led the way for CBC with 20 points, while Christmas grabbed 12 rebounds as well.

Baseball

         • North Little Rock, Feb. 7 — Playing at the friendly confines of Burns Park for the first time this season, CBC hosted the Braves of Ottawa University (OU). CBC (1-4) split the doubleheader, winning game one 1-0 before dropping game two 6-5 to OU (5-1).

         • North Little Rock, Feb. 8 — After splitting the first two of their four-game series, CBC played the final two games against Ottawa University at DeJanis Memorial Field. CBC (1-6) dropped both ends of the doubleheader, falling 5-4 in game one and 8-5 in game two to OU (7-1).

Softball

         • Alexandria, La., Feb. 7 — Playing in Louisiana for the second straight weekend, CBC opened the Generals Showdown with a pair of games against #14 William Carey (WCU) and #21 LSU-Alexandria (LSU-A). CBC (2-4) dropped both contests, losing 4-2 to WCU (2-0) and 10-2 to LSU-A (5-1).

         • Alexandria, La., Feb. 8 — Looking to bounce back from a tough first day at the Generals Showdown, CBC was back at Champions Park for the second day of the Generals Showdown. CBC (2-6) dropped a pair of one-run contests, falling 3-2 to Louisiana Christian (6-1) and 6-5 to the United States Sports Academy.
