BMA Pastor, Former Missionary Dies

Paul Davis Heuermann, 75 of Conroe, Texas, passed away March 16. He was a longtime BMA pastor and former BMA of America missionary to Ghana.

After graduating from Conroe High School, he attended Sam Houston University, Jacksonville College (where he met his wife) and the Baptist Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Texas. He surrendered to special service at the age of 14 and to the ministry at the age of 18 and began his ministry pastoring churches at the age of 18 in 1967.

Early in his teen years, Paul worked with his father and brothers, learning the skill of laying brick. Over the years, he pastored seven churches, often supplementing his income from the churches by using his skills as a bricklayer.

He was elected as a missionary in Ghana, West Africa in April 1997 and arrived on the field in September 1997, where he served the Lord for 13 years. After returning to the US from Africa, he pastored two Texas churches, Freestone in Teague and New Bethlehem in Cut and Shoot, where he was pastoring at the time of his death.

In a Personality Profile in the Oct. 2, 2002 issue of the Baptist Trumpet, Bro. Heuerman said he wanted his children to remember, “No one fails until they quit trying.” He also said he would like his epitaph to read: “He made a difference.”

Survivors include: his wife of 47 years, Kerri (Custer) Heuermann; two sons, Michael David (Christie) Heuermann and Stephen Daniel (N’Tosha) Heuermann; a daughter, Adrianna Nicole (Aaron) Kidder; three brothers, Phillip (Linda) Heuermann, Tommy (Janie) Heuermann and Dennis (Jennifer) Heuermann; and 15 grandchildren.

Services were held at New Bethlehem Baptist Church on March 22, with burial at the Waller Family Cemetery under the direction of McNutt Funeral Home (mcnuttfuneralhome.com).

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to the Paul Heuermann Scholarship Fund to help continue the work at the BMA Bible Institute in Ghana, West Africa. Donations may be made through New Bethlehem Baptist Church, 14630 Millmac Road, Conroe, Texas 77303 or the BMA Missions office, P.O. Box 878, Conway, Ark. 72033, designated for this fund.
