CBC SPORTS: Softball Runner-up in AMC

Baseball

         • O’Fallon, Mo., April 29 — Opening play in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championship, the #4 seed CBC took on the #5 seed William Woods (WWU) Owls at CarShield Field. CBC (28-22) scored early and got great pitching to down WWU (28-21) 7-2.

         • O’Fallon, Mo., April 30 — Following a win in game one of the AMC Tournament, CBC took on the #1 seed Missouri Baptist Spartans (MBU) at CarShield Field. CBC (28-23) fell behind early and couldn’t recover, falling 4-1 to MBU (38-9).

         • O’Fallon, Mo., May 2 — CBC (29-24) beat William Woods (29-22) 13-6 to eliminate the Owls before seeing their season end against Mission (34-18) 5-4.

Women’s Golf

         • Melbourne, April 29 — Looking to make a move on the final day of competition at the AMC Championship, CBC was on the course at Cooper’s Hawk Country Club for the final 18 holes. CBC nearly matched their first-round score, shooting a 348 to finish with a 693 and in third place, 74 shots behind the winners from Columbia. Individually, Abby Kirby finished with an 80 for a total score of 158, her second-lowest 36-hole score of the season. Laney Crutchfield finished with an 83 for an overall score of 165, her lowest 36-hole score and a tie for 10th place. Thaylia Ramirez followed her best 18 holes with a 91 for her 36-hole low of 176 while Daniela Alastre shot a final round 94 to post a 194.

Men’s Golf

         • Melbourne, May 5 — Teeing off for the final time in 2025, CBC was on course at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Club for the first 36 holes of the AMC Championship. CBC shot a 300 and a 304 in the first two rounds for a total of 604, good for third place, 23 shots behind second. Individually, Jakub Slapal is tied for third after posting back-to-back rounds of 72 for a total of 144, 10 shots behind the individual leader. Preston Nesterenko is next after he shot a 73 and 78 for a 151, followed by Cooper Hermann, who went 79, 78; Jack Higginbotham, who shot 83, 76 and Paul Gomez who shot 76, 90 across two rounds.

Softball

         • Conway, April 30 — Looking to continue their momentum in the AMC Tournament, CBC took on #1 seed MBU in the winner’s bracket at City of Colleges Park. CBC (29-24) lost in heartbreaking fashion to MBU (42-6) 7-6 before eliminating Crowley’s Ridge (19-26) 7-0 to move into the semifinals on their home field.

         • Conway, May 2 — Looking to survive and advance in the AMC Softball Tournament on their home field, CBC took on the Williams Baptist University Eagles in an elimination game at City of Colleges Park. CBC (30-24) dispatched the Eagles (34-14) 4-0 and followed that with a 3-0 win over William Woods (30-17) to advance to the AMC Tournament Championship game for the fourth time in program history.

         • Conway, May 2 — Carrying a 21-inning scoreless streak into the AMC Softball Tournament Championship game, CBC faced off against the top-seed MBU at City of Colleges Park. The Mustangs (31-25) only managed to get a runner to third base twice, falling 1-0 to MBU (44-6) and finishing as the runners-up in the AMC Tournament.

Track & Field

         • Edwardsville, Ill., May 2 — CBC competed for the final time this season at the AMC Championships. The championship highlight was Solomon Barnes making history for CBC in the triple jump, recording a distance of 13.47 meters on his fifth attempt, the second longest of his career. His jump was good enough to win the championship by .03 meters, making him the first Mustang individual champion ever in a field event. He also finished seventh in the long jump with a distance of 5.51 meters and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.53. The rest of the CBC athletes who competed and their events included Evan East, who ran an 11.85 in the 100-meter dash and a 24.36 in the 200-meter dash; Josh Brown, who finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.13 seconds and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.78; Kortney Embry, who finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.62 seconds and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.87; Mackenzie Milligan, who completed the 800-meter race for the women’s team with a personal record time of 2:56.88; Bay Davis, who finished the 800-meter race for the women’s team in a time of 3:12.68; Lindsey Risner, who finished the 800-meter race for the women’s team in a time of 3:14.80; and Chris Palmer, who ran the 5000-meter race and finished with a time of 17:41.02. The men’s team placed seventh with a total of 33 points.
