CBC PROFILE: Board of Trustees Meeting Highlights

      The Central Baptist College Board of Trustees met on Friday and Saturday, May 30-31. The three standing committees of the Board (academic, advancement and finance) met on Friday evening to conduct business and hear recommendations from the CBC Executive Leadership Team.

      The full board convened on Saturday morning. All members of the Executive Leadership Team and the Faculty Council Moderator gave a report related to his/her areas of responsibility. Each committee secretary gave a report of his/her respective committee meeting, and the Board appointed a nominating committee for 2026 Board officers. The following are some highlights of the Board meeting:

      — Approved the following as recommended by the Academic Committee:

      • Aligning course numbers for PACE Psychology and Counseling courses with those used in the Traditional Behavioral Sciences Department to create a uniform course numbering system;

      • Revising PST3340 Basic Counseling by changing its prefix from PST to COU. This change ensures consistency across the Bible and Behavioral Sciences departments.

      • New Courses: COU4320 Capstone I: Careers in Psychology, COU4321 Capstone II: Fieldwork in Psychology (PACE only) and PSY2384 Lifespan Development. These courses offer integrated, faith-based, and practical experiences that align with psychology career paths and developmental learning. PSY2384 consolidates content from two previous courses.

      • Modifying the following Behavioral Sciences degree plans to incorporate new course additions and removals — Psychology and Social Services (BS and BA) and Psychology and Counseling (BS and BA). Modifications include adding PSY2384 and COU4320, while removing PSY2382, PSY2383 and PSY3320 to streamline the curriculum and maintain relevancy; modifying the Psychology, BS Degree Plan in PACE to align course numbers with the Traditional program, add PSY2384 and COU capstone courses, and remove outdated PAC and CPS courses;

      • Revising MED3300 Marching Band Techniques to reduce it from a 3-credit hour course to a 2-credit hour course and renumber it as MED3200. This supports workload balance with the anticipated yearlong internship; revising the Music Education degree plans as follows: reduce Major Performance from 14 to 12 credit hours, reduce Recital Attendance from 7 to 6 semesters and update MED3300 to MED3200 in the Instrumental plan. The first two changes apply to both Instrumental and Vocal BME programs.

      • Revisions to the following Natural Sciences and Mathematics Department courses: BIO1410, BIO2300, CHM1400, CHM1401, CHM3401, CHM3402 and CHM3420. Updates include course names, descriptions, objectives and rationales to improve clarity, alignment and transferability.

      • New Course: BIO1411 Principles of Biology II. This course builds upon BIO1410 and integrates a Biblical worldview with foundational studies in biology and ecology.

      • Modifying degree plans across the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Department, including: General Education in Science (AA), Biology (BA, BS), Health Sciences (BS) and Biology Minor. Changes reflect updated course names, added neuroscience and ecology content, and streamlined science cores; implementing a yearlong internship requirement across all Education Department degree programs in compliance with the LEARNS Act. A zero-credit-hour course will be added in the first semester of the students’ final year. Impacted programs include: Elementary Education, BSE; Middle Level Education, BSE; Secondary Level English-Language Arts, BSE; Secondary Level Social Studies, BSE; Health & Physical Education, BSE; Music Education — Instrumental, BME and Music Education — Vocal, BME.
