A friend recently reminded me that many people give to a variety of needs, and those gifts often come from different “pockets.” Some have a “missions” pocket, some have a “CBC” pocket, some have a “camp” pocket. God’s people want to give where they see the need and where they believe it will make a difference.
I believe some also have a “Trumpet” pocket. They just need to be made aware of the need.
Since 1939, the Baptist Trumpet has been faithfully telling the story of what God is doing through our churches, missionaries, schools and other BMA ministries. Every week, we connect God’s people to the mission — from the local church to around the world. We preserve our history for future generations, seek to inspire our readers to greater faithfulness, and encourage greater involvement in what God is doing through our association of churches.
However, the big picture of our finances shows a steady decline over the last few years. In 2021, we averaged about $7,300 per month in offerings. Over the last year, that average has dropped to $5,946. That difference of $1,354 each month equals more than $16,000 in reduced income.
That decline has gradually impacted our reserves. Instead of using Special Emphasis funds for projects like digital expansion or technology upgrades, we’ve had to use them just to cover operating expenses. Those gifts have kept us going, and we are very thankful — but our hope is to return Special Emphasis to its original purpose: funding special needs that move this ministry forward.
Adding to the challenge is that September was a three-issue month. This means churches will only be billed for three weeks of subscriptions instead of the normal four weeks. This reduces our subscriber income for the month of October. We face the same situation with November and December, as they are also three-issue months, leading to 25% less subscription income from those months. Additionally, giving often declines toward the end of the year. These factors make it the right time to ask for help.
This is where you can make a difference. Could you respond in one of the following ways:
• Pray. We strongly believe in the power of prayer. We are seeking individuals who would pray fervently for the long-term stability of this ministry. Will you commit to joining us in praying for God to provide not just for our immediate needs, but also for the best way to move this ministry forward, bringing Him honor and glory as we fulfill our mission?
• Add the Baptist Trumpet to your monthly giving. If your church is not already giving monthly, would you consider adding the Trumpet to your budget? This ministry cannot continue without the faithful, regular giving from our churches. Any amount given regularly helps provide stability, allowing us to plan for the future.
• Give a one-time offering. If you are unable to add us to your monthly giving, would you prayerfully consider a one-time gift to help meet our needs? If your church already gives, but can give more than your normal amount, that would be greatly appreciated. And if this ministry has blessed you personally, a one-time gift of any size will help meet the need.
Paul told the Philippians, “Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account” (Phil. 4:17). That’s our heart as well. Giving to the Trumpet is not just about balancing numbers — it’s about partnering in the gospel. Your support ensures that missionaries are supported, churches are connected and God’s people are encouraged every week.
We believe God has a plan and purpose for this ministry, and He has always provided what was needed through His people. If He has blessed you with a “Trumpet” pocket, now is the time to reach into it. You can give securely at BaptistTrumpet.com/give or by mailing a check to our office (P.O. Box 192208, Little Rock, Ark. 72219).
Together, as an association of churches and individuals, we can strengthen this ministry for today and for generations to come — telling more stories, sharing more good news, and keeping us all connected to the mission.
