CBC SPORTS UPDATE: February 22, 2023

Baseball

• North Little Rock, Feb. 17 — Playing at Burns Park for the first time this season, CBC was at home hosting a doubleheader against the Falcons of Kansas Christian College. CBC (3-5) split the doubleheader, winning game one 6-4 before losing game two 5-3.

Women’s Basketball

• Conway, Feb. 17 — Opening their final homestand of the season, CBC hosted the Stars of Stephens College in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) game. CBC (10-14, 5-14 AMC) came back from a 5-point halftime deficit to defeat Stephens (16-9, 11-8 AMC) 55-54. Caroline Citty and Olivia Lambrigtsen both finished in double figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively, while Lambrigtsen led the way in rebounds with 9. CBC outrebounded Stephens 40-32, hit 7 more free throws and were +8 on points in the paint.

Wrestling

• Fort Worth, Texas, Feb. 18 — CBC was on the mat at Texas Wesleyan University for the 2023 AMC/Sooner Athletic Conference Championship. Six wrestlers placed in the top four in their weight classes, four wrestlers were named to All-Conference and CBC finished second in the AMC and fifth in the overall standings at the Championship. Darron Harvey defeated teammate Antwon Singleton in the final to win the heavyweight class and earned All-Conference honors as well as Newcomer of the Year. He qualified for the NAIA National Wrestling Championship on March 4 & 5 in Wichita, Kan. David Corretjer placed fourth at 125 pounds and was All-Conference and Freshman of the Year. Alejandro Mas placed fourth at 149 pounds and Christian Richer took third at 165 pounds. Both also earned All-Conference selections, setting a record for most all-conference selections by CBC in wrestling. Gregory Pierre-Louis captured fourth at 197 pounds.

Women’s Basketball

• Conway, Feb. 18 — CBC women’s basketball wrapped up their season with a visit from AMC foe Harris-Stowe State on homecoming inside A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (11-14, 6-14 AMC) finished their season with back-to-back wins, sending Harris-Stowe (4-21, 3-17 AMC) back home with a stinging 53-49 loss. Caroline Citty had 14 points and Olivia Lambrigtsen added 12 for the Lady Mustangs to send them into the offseason on a high note. 

Indoor Track & Field

• Elsah, Ill., Feb. 18 — Four athletes competed for CBC at the AMC Indoor Track Championships, hosted by Principia College. Ally Swaim competed in four events, winning the 60-meter hurdles for the third straight season, with a time of 9.13. She also placed fourth in the 200 meters, 10th in the 600 meters and third in the 60 meters. Josh Brown finished fifth in the 60 meters on the men’s side while Isaiah Stiger placed fourth in the long jump with a new program record jump of 6.12 meters, making him the first Mustang to jump over six meters, while Jadon Price finished 19th in the same event. Indoor Track season is now complete and the outdoor season begins on March 11 at the Hendrix Alumni Open.

Men’s Basketball

• Conway, Feb. 18 — CBC men’s basketball clinched a rematch in the AMC quarterfinals in dominating fashion at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (19-9, 11-5 AMC) dominated HSSU (8-15, 7-9 AMC) to the tune of 47% shooting to 36%, winning 80-54, setting up another game with the Hornets on Thursday night (Feb. 23) in the AMC quarterfinals. Tipoff is 7 p.m. at Reddin Fieldhouse!
