CBC SPORTS UPDATE: January 25, 2023

Men’s Basketball

• Conway, Jan. 17 — Finishing the non-American Midwest Conference (AMC) portion of their schedule, CBC took on the Panthers of Philander Smith College (PSC) at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (13-7) trailed 37-29 at halftime and lost to PSC (13-2) 73-51.

• Conway, Jan. 19 — Opening the second half of AMC play inside AR Reddin Fieldhouse, CBC took on the Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP) in St. Louis. CBC (14-7, 6-3 AMC) trailed by four five and half minutes in, but recovered and scored 53 second-half points to cruise to a 92-69 win over UHSP (5-14, 3-6 AMC).

Women’s Basketball

• Conway, Jan. 19 — Opening the second half of AMC play at home, CBC took on the Eutectics of UHSP in St. Louis. CBC (7-9, 2-9 AMC) trailed by 14 at halftime and fell 81-63 to UHSP (13-5, 9-2 AMC).

• Conway, Jan. 21 — Looking to snap a five-game losing streak in the AMC, CBC hosted the Comets of Cottey College at AR Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (8-9, 3-9 AMC) overcame a four-point halftime deficit to beat Cottey (8-11, 4-8 AMC) 54-49.

Track & Field

• Pittsburg, Kan., Jan. 21 — Competing for the first time in two weeks, CBC was back on course at the NAIA/Juco Invitational, hosted by Pittsburg State University. Four athletes, Ally Swaim, Ashleigh Gross-Mitchell, Josh Brown and Jadon Price competed for CBC. Swaim won for the first time this season, cruising to a 9.33 in the 60-meter hurdles and winning by a tenth and a half. Gross-Mitchell competed in both the 60-meter dash and the long jump, where she recorded a time of 8.88 in the 60 and a 4.32-meter jump in the long jump. Brown competed in both the 60-meter dash and the hurdles, posting times of 7.75 and 9.03. Price competed in the long jump and posted a mark of 5.32 meters.

• St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 23 — The AMC announced their athletes of the week and a CBC track athlete was among the selections. Ally Swaim earned athlete of the week once again for the third time in her career. Swaim won the 60-meter hurdles at the NAIA/Juco Invitational with a time of 9.33 seconds. She finished .17 seconds ahead of second in a field that included runners from several conference schools.
