BMA Pastor Dies

      Elvis Virdine Brandon, 81, of Rector, Arkansas passed away April 2. He was a longtime BMA pastor. He surrendered to the ministry in 1975 and was ordained May 29, 1977 by Shady Grove Baptist Church in Piggott, his first pastorate. He went on to serve in a number of other churches in Arkansas including: Boydsville, Rector (SBC); Antioch, Rector; Prairie, Lake City; Elm Grove, Lake City; Blooming Grove, Rector; Bethany, Jonesboro; True Light, McDougal; Valley View, Jonesboro; and Central, Trumann. He also pastored Glenview in Independence, Mo.

      Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Carol; two daughters, Tami (Rick) Williams of Jonesboro and Shelley (Tony) Davis of Trumann; two sons, Shawn (Janee’) Brandon of Rector and Hunter (Brittney) Brandon of Caraway; two sisters, Byrlene (Curtis) Barker of Williford and Betty Brandon of Paragould; and a brother, James Terry (Janet) Brandon of Paragould; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

      A celebration of life was held at Irby-Mitchell Funeral Home (irbyfuneralhome.com) in Rector April 6, with Jerry Jolly and Leon Harvey officiating. Burial followed at Rogers Chapel Cemetery in Crockett.
