Former BMA Pastor Dies

Larry Donald “Don” Armagost Sr., 83, of Columbia, Miss., passed away Dec. 3, 2025. A native of Florida, Bro. Armagost came to know Christ under the ministry of Jerry Kidd at Westwood Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Sensing the Lord’s call to ministry, he enrolled at Central Baptist College in Conway, where he earned an associate degree.

While a student at CBC, he accepted the pastorate of Berean Baptist Church in North Little Rock in February 1976. He served the congregation from 1975 to 1980. During his pastorate, the church purchased approximately four acres of land and relocated its facilities.

In August 1980, Armagost resigned at Berean to return to Westwood Baptist Church as pastor. During his college years, he also served in pastoral, music, bus, and youth ministries.

Over the course of his ministry, he pastored churches in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi. He later earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Covington Theological Seminary and a doctorate from Gospel Ministry Outreach Theological Institute.

In addition to the pastorate, he served as chaplain for Camelea Hospice, Enhabit Hospice, and the Mississippi Training School in Columbia, Miss., where he also held the position of administrator.

He authored a devotional book, Along the Way: Finding Strength for Life’s Journey, to encourage believers in their walk with Christ. His later ministry included service at New Life Fellowship in Columbia, teaching at the New Life School of Ministry, and serving as pastor emeritus with A.C.T.S. Fellowship. He also participated in mission work in Haiti.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Linda Kirkland Armagost of Columbia; his daughter, Debbie (Kenny) LaBue of Foxworth; one brother, Rodney (Lenora) Armagost of Howard Creek, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Dec. 13, 2025, at New Life Fellowship in Columbia with Dr. Terry Weems, Antonio Johnson, and Mike Thornton officiating. Arrangements by Hathorn Funeral Home (hathornfuneralhome.com).
