Isaacs, BMA Legacy Missionary, Dies

Ruth Virginia (Locke) Isaacs, 94, of Jacksonville, Texas, passed away March 24. She was the wife of longtime legacy BMA missionary Robert Isaacs.

Robert surrendered to preach in 1950 and began serving in many rural churches in Texas. Ruth served alongside him during his pastorates and during his time as an interstate missionary, which began in 1964. Together, they labored especially among Spanish-speaking people, planting churches in Lubbock, Texas, and Roswell, New Mexico.

Recognizing the need for Spanish-language Christian literature, Robert and Ruth pioneered a publications ministry to Spanish-speaking areas. She worked for more than 35 years with Casa Bautista Misionera de Publicaciones in Lubbock, Texas, where she assisted in multiple capacities, including typesetting, to help produce Spanish-language Christian literature distributed across the United States and into Central and South America.

Following more than 50 years of ministry service, Robert and Ruth Isaacs retired in 2001.

Survivors include her husband of 76 years, Robert Isaacs; three children, Paula (Ronnie) Wade of Henderson, Texas; Donald “Donny” Isaacs of Jacksonville, Texas; and Carla (Willard) Templeman of Longview, Texas; one sister, Betty (Tom) Keenum of Abilene; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held March 30 at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Texas, with Eric Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Cushing Cemetery under the direction of Autry Funeral Home (autryfuneralhome.com).
