Ten Men in a Loft

By Bryan Clay, Missionary • Faith Journey Mission

Early last year, we began a Tuesday night men’s Bible study with just four men. From the start, it was clear that God was moving among us. The young men began to grow spiritually, and they encouraged one another throughout the week.

One Tuesday night, we were studying the book of James, specifically chapter 2, and discussing how Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice. When the young men realized what that story meant, their eyes grew wide in amazement. Watching their hunger for God’s Word stirred something in my heart, and I prayed, “Lord, I’d give anything to be able to teach these young men the mountain peaks of the Old Testament.”

After the meeting, two of the young men approached me and said, “If we ever start Sunday morning services, we’ll be there — and we’ll bring everyone we know.” We soon began praying and planning, and the Lord made a way for us to start meeting at The Cabin on Sunday mornings, in addition to our Sunday service. Through the men’s invitations, we quickly began to see growth — about 30 people were attending regularly.

As the Tuesday night Bible study continued to grow, the ladies of our church also joined us. Not long after that, we also launched a children’s ministry on Tuesday nights. When this happened, the men moved up into the loft of the cabin, and before long, we had 10 men meeting together!

I remember saying one Sunday morning that there’s something powerful about 10 men meeting together in a loft — men who sharpen one another as “iron sharpens iron.” Now, just a few months later, four of those young men are already learning how to disciple others and pour into their lives.

Our prayer is that these 10 men will each disciple 10 more, and that those 10 will go on to disciple others, multiplying the work of the kingdom. Through it all, God’s hand has been strong upon this ministry. We’ve seen a snowball effect of spiritual and numerical growth, and we give all the glory to God. Our goal is to continue sharing His Word, encouraging each other and reaching our community for Christ.
