Greenbrier District WMA Plans 85th Celebration

By Robin Tyler, President • Greenbrier District WMA

On April 19, 1939, upon an invitation from the auxiliary of Macedonia Church to the ladies in all the churches in the Greenbrier Association, a group of ladies met at Macedonia for the purpose of organizing a District Women’s Missionary Auxiliary (WMA). The following churches were represented: Macedonia, Springhill and Pleasant Valley. Ladies on record as being in attendance at the meeting were Mrs. E.V. Barton (president), Mrs. J.W. Merritt (vice president), Ruby Kirby (secretary/treasurer), Ruby Rhea (reporter), Jewell Brannon, Ronald Patton, Mrs. Doyle Havens, Pearl Dillaha, Amy Brannon, Virgi Love, Mrs. W.P. Batson, Mrs. J.L. Conner, Mrs. Ola Reynolds, Mrs. E.T. Williams and Mrs. Gately. “My Faith looks up to Thee” was the opening song for the day, and a part of the last chapter of Proverbs was read for a devotional by Mrs. E.V. Barton. Foreign missions was adopted as their first project.

2024 marks the 85th year since Greenbrier District WMA was founded, and we are making plans for a celebration on April 20 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenbrier from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. We invite all women to join us in our celebration.

A spectacular trio is set to take the stage as our keynote speakers. For the first time ever on the same stage, Taffy Johnson, Kelly Johnson and Audrey Johnson will each be sharing about their journey with God.

Reaching back and propelling forward, our goal is to present the Greenbrier District WMA’s time serving God as a “Journey Through the Years.” The decor and theme for the day will give an overview of the years the Greenbrier District has served, and a rich history will be on display. Past presidents and past projects will be recognized. For information about the celebration contact me at (501) 328-7770.
